Distressed parents: Prom dresses too short, too sexy

Editor’s note: Kelly Wallace is CNN’s digital correspondent and editor-at-large covering family, career and life. She is a mom of two. Read her other columns and follow her reports at CNN Parents and on Twitter.
(CNN) — For Holly Manson, a mom of three teens in Oakland, Maine, one simple saying has made the difference between absolute dread during prom season and actually welcoming the rite of passage.
“‘I always told my girls to ‘dress classy not trashy’ and so when they make their clothing choices, they tend to go towards the classy stuff,” said Manson, who responded to a request for comment on CNN’s Facebook page.
It’s a saying, she says, that just popped into her head around the time her girls, now 14 and 18, and her son, 16, started middle school.
All the inappropriate clothing Manson saw while out shopping with her kids inspired the mantra. “To be honest with you, that one phrase has saved us so many headaches.”

Game of Thrones: Purple Wedding Dress In Demand For Real World Brides

Natalie Dormer’s topless photos may have caught the attention of male GoT fans, but it was it the rose-and-thorn adorned wedding dress that Natalie wore during Margaery Tyrell’s wedding to Prince Joffrey that’s caught the attention of female viewers.

Yes, despite its unique cut and color, the dress Dormer wore during the so-called “Purple Wedding” has become a fan favorite and is expected to appear in several GoT-themed ceremonies this upcoming wedding season.

The dress has made a star of the HBO series’ costume designer Michele Clapton, who says the dress was inspired by the Tyrell family’s rose sigil and the form-fitting cut of the grown represents Margaery’s desire to break with tradition (and piss off Joffrey’s mother, Cersei).

Spoiler alert (although we’re of the opinion that if you’re behind on the show, you should probably avoid Thrones-themed web news): King Joffrey gets killed at the Purple Wedding, the victim of a murder plot that’s not resolved by the episode’s end.

So hopefully women who felt inspired by the event won’t take their homages any further than emulating Margaery’s style.

If you missed the episode, you can watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic, or check out our gallery of King Joffrey’s agaonizing final moments in the gallery below.

Monique Lhuillier Spring 2015 Wedding Dresses: PHOTOS

Spring 2015 Bridal Collection - Monique Lhuillier - Show

You’re not likely to see a miss at a Monique Lhuillier bridal fashion runway show and this season was no different. The title of her Spring 2015 wedding dress collection was My Eternal Daydream and the line was inspired by the works of painter John Singer Sargent. Beautiful unexpected shades of hydrangea, pistachio and misty blue created a watercolor display. Coupled with effortless A-line and fit-and-flare silhouettes, the line was decidedly romantic and sophisticated. See Monique Lhuillier’s brand-new dreamy new wedding dress designs here!

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Dress Designers Revealed told you first that Kim would be wearing not one but TWO gowns on her big day, and now we’ve learned who has been chosen to take on this glamorous task!
Designers have been clamoring to design Kim Kardashian‘s wedding dress for her lavish ceremony to Kanye West on May 24. Now has learned that both of Kim’s dresses for the big day are custom made and we know who has been honored with this amazing privilege!

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Dress Designers Revealed
Kim’s is very close with Vera Wang, so it would make sense for her to wear one of her gorgeous creations, right? Our insider tells us that Kim has multiple custom gowns that she’s deciding between but that Riccardo Tisci, the Creative Director for Givenchy, and good friend of Kanye’s, will be designing the second dress she wears that evening.

Who will Kim wear on her big day?

“She’s actually deciding between a custom Lanvin, and Monique Lhuillier gown,” our insider tells us. “She wants to feel like a princess, but have it be form-fitting too. Don’t expect some poofy dress like she wore when she married Kris [Humphries]. Think ultra chic. Kanye is involved in every part of the process.”

Keep in mind, Kim wore Lanvin on the cover of Vogue and she was stunning!

Kim & Kanye West’s Wedding Pics To Be Featured In ‘Vogue’
We’ve also just learned from our insider that “you’ll be seeing their wedding pics in Vogue this summer.”

In Anna Wintour‘s editor’s letter, she defended putting Kimye on the cover:

Kanye is an amazing performer and cultural provocateur, while Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world’s spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that.” Lastly, Anna writes that Vogue always looks to feature those who define culture at the given moment — the people who stir things up and influence the world — before joking, “I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T. (Or perhaps that should be to a K?)

We can’t wait for them to get married and we’re sure Kim will look stunning.

The ‘Game Of Thrones’ Wedding Dress We’ve All Been Dying To See

There ain’t no wedding like a Purple Wedding!

At least that’s what we expect from the fantastical world created by George R.R. Martin in “Game of Thones.” And unlike the Red Wedding, the upcoming nuptials between the asinine-yet-psychotic King Joffrey and his cunning fiancee, Margaery Tyrell are gearing up to be a more glamorous, less bloody affair (fingers crossed!).

While we’re not necessarily excited to see these two wed, we are excited for Tyrell’s (Natalie Dormer) wedding dress! So the moment you’ve all been waiting for is here — Margaery Tyrell’s wedding gown:

Don’t worry… she’s not getting married! Kate Gosselin sports a wedding dress on the streets of New York… for Celebrity Apprentice

She may have stunned passerby while donning a wedding dress and platform peep-toe heels on the streets of New York City, but Kate Gosselin did it all for charity.
The mother of eight was captured on Saturday in New York City showing off her bare shoulders in a short feathered white dress for an episode of Celebrity Apprentice.
Gosselin, 39, was tasked to sell the iconic white dress as part of a charitable challenge for the show, the slim mother explained via Twitter on Saturday.

Will you marry me tomorrow? 10-12:30 at 50W 23rd St NYC I’ll be there waiting, wearing my wedding dress! Buy it for charity! #BridesForADay’, the Celebrity Wife Swap participant announced to her followers through Twitter on Saturday.
In addition to the wedding dress sale, Gosselin’s team advertised complimentary hair and make-up consultations for curious participants.
Gosselin looked every bit the blushing bride part in a modern white dress with feathery accents while surrounded amongst an entourage of well-suited men.

How I Met Your Mother Finale: Everything You Need to Know About The Mother’s Celebrity-Inspired Wedding Dress!

WARNING: We’re about to discuss some light spoilers from How I Met Your Mother’s series finale. If you do not wish to partake, kindly turn away and leave now, you blitz! For everyone else, we’re passing you some virtual tissues.
We’re still sobbing.
We just finished watching the very last How I Met Your Mother episode and millions of thoughts are still running through our minds. It was a hauntingly beautiful send-off filled with highly anticipated answers, tear-jerking moments and heartfelt nods to the series’ devoted fandom. Although we’re still trying to process everything that just flashed across our TV screens, there is one moment in particular that we will cherish forever.
Watching Ted (Josh Radnor) and (Spoiler Alet!) Tracy’s—AKA The Mother (Cristin Milioti)—simple yet sweet wedding was, without a doubt, one of the best marital ceremonies in television’s history. We bawled like little as their shared their first kiss and literally squealed out lout when Ted finally married the woman of his dreams. (Well, one of the women of his dreams) However, all the while, we could not stop mentally complimenting how breathtaking Milioti looked in that elegant ivory dress.

In fact, we’re so obsessed with Milioti’s gorgeous gown, that we gathered exclusive secrets on everything you need to know on her end-of-the-aisle look. We chatted with Reiko Kurumada, HIMYM’s critically acclaimed stylist, to get the behind-the-scenes scoop on The Mother’s celebrity-inspired wedding dress.
“Since the wedding takes place in the future years from now, I wanted the dress to be age appropriate for Cristin (The Mother),” the head costume designer exclusively revealed to E! Online. “When I suggested the overall look to be very simple with a little vintage feel, a la Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, [creators] Carter Bays and Craig Thomas agreed completely.”
When it came to finding the perfect dress, Kurumada revealed that fate played a large role in their hunt. “We found a gorgeous simple gown in the vintage section of a costume house, along with a vintage broach that we made into a hair pin,” she explained. “The dress fit her perfectly. No alterations needed at all. It was meant to be!”
